The Kaleidoscope (カレイドスコープ Kareidosucōpu?) is the name of a weapon found in Tales of the Rays. It is particularly developed in Sellund, the main town setting of the game. The Mirror is used in part of developing the Kaleidoscope. The Kaleidoscope is initially a Magic Mirror weapon that once fell into the crisis of destroying the world. Extracts material and Anima which is the backbone of life and repeats reflection inside the kaleidoscope to eliminate the object. The object whose Anima is lost will disappear as light sand. Despite being referred to as a destructive weapon, it was first built to aid the human beings of Tir Na Nog, as do the Magic Mirror Weapons for the Mirrists.
A mirrage weapon that once threatened the world's very existence. It leeches out the anima at the core of living and material things alike, and reflects it within itself many times. This causes targets to dissolve into glittering sand.
The Kaleidoscope can be seen in the logo of the game as it is the main focus of the story's corruption but also the fact that it is related to the mirror's used by each individual for their source of powers. The mirrors are what are used inside the weapon.
A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument with two or more reflecting surfaces inclined to each other in an angle, so that one or more (parts of) objects on one end of the mirrors are seen as a regular symmetrical pattern when viewed from the other end, due to repeated reflection. The reflectors (or mirrors) are usually enclosed in a tube, often containing on one end a cell with loose, colored pieces of glass or other transparent (and/or opaque) materials to be reflected into the viewed pattern. Rotation of the cell causes motion of the materials, resulting in an ever changing viewed pattern.
The term "kaleidoscope" is derived from the Ancient Greek καλός (kalos), "beautiful, beauty", εἶδος (eidos), "that which is seen: form, shape" and σκοπέω (skopeō), "to look to, to examine", hence "observation of beautiful forms." This is also seen as the Kaleidoscope has the ability to scope and reflect and original item, hence creating "copies", likewise seen in the game.
